Code for America has reached an agreement with staff on voluntary union recognition.
On Thursday, the association announced the agreement, which comes into force tomorrow, pending verification of the staff card.
Code for America CEO Amanda Renteria described the recognition agreement as a “milestone” for the nonprofit. “It has been a learning journey for our organization, and we got to where we are today, with voluntary recognition, because of our strong commitment to fulfilling our mission and staying true to our values. “

A spokesperson for Code for America’s Workers United, which is affiliated with Local 1010 of the OPEIU Technology Workers Union, said: “We are delighted to form one of the first civic technology unions here at Code. for America. We look forward to working with CfA leadership to continue to create a culture within the organization that allows all employees to present themselves at work as themselves, every day. “
The organization’s management and staff had already agreed to an October 18 deadline for voluntary recognition and agreed that a card verification would take place on or before October 22.
