Coast Guard veteran Alfred M. Vecoli Sr. of Pawtucket dies aged 93

Vecoli, Alfred M. Sr., entered eternal life on January 6, 2022 at his home in Pawtucket, RI, surrounded by his family.

Alfred had a long and happy life filled with family and friends.

Born March 23, 1928 in Pawtucket, RI, from Guido and Maria (Coppede) Vecoli. He is survived by his brother Marco Vecoli and his sister Emma (Vecoli) Miniati, both residents of Pawtucket, RI. He was predeceased by Silvio Vecoli, Lena (Vecoli) Poirier, Guido (Vic) Vecoli, Albert Vecoli, Emma Vecoli and Charles Alfred Vecoli.

Alfred, “Nonno” was married for sixty-three years to Jeannette (Demers) Vecoli, “Nonni” until her death (2011). Alfred is survived by his eight children: Alfred M. Vecoli Jr. of Brooksville, Florida; Ann-Marie and Jack Cardosi from Seekonk, MA; Janet and Paul Barrett of East Haddam, Connecticut; Linda Vecoli and William Martin of North Smithfield, RI; Charles and June Vecoli from Inlet Beach, Florida; Tina Vecoli from Pawtucket RI; John J. and Brenda Vecoli of Bristol, RI; Christopher Jude Vecoli from Brooksville, Florida. Nonno is survived by fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren who called him “Primo”. Alfred has many nieces and nephews who called him not only “Uncle Al” but also “friend”.

He was a caring and compassionate friend and neighbor to old and young. Alfred has lived most of his life on Cute Street, being born in his parents’ house across from his own. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Teresa Parish in Pawtucket, RI, and a staunch supporter of St. Teresa Parish and School.

Alfred enjoyed spending summers in family summer homes in Warren, RI on the Kickemuit River since he was a child. He was a member of the IDIP Club on Memorial Drive in Pawtucket where he held various leadership positions including President and Trustee. He was a supporter of Scouting and was Chairman of the 25 Pawtucket Troop Committee. He liked to travel at home and abroad. He especially enjoyed visiting relatives and friends at his ancestral home in Pietrasanta, Italy.

Alfred was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He retired from Texas Instruments in Attleboro, MA after twenty-seven years of service. Prior to joining TI, he held numerous jobs in the textile industry in the Rhode Island and Massachusetts area. During his retirement he owned and managed rental properties in Pawtucket, RI.

Mr. Vecoli’s funeral will be on Wednesday, January 12 at 9:00 a.m. Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket, RI.

There will be a Christian Burial Mass at St. Teresa’s Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket at 10:00 am.

Interment will be in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery.

His calling hours will be Tuesday, January 11 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Parents and friends are invited.
