Call for Action needs volunteers to help consumers find solutions

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – WSFA 12 news is entering a new partnership to help you solve your problems and need volunteers.

Call for Action is a non-profit network of consumer helplines that operates similarly to the Defenders phone banks we have created in the past. The call to action will be available every day to guide you through any issues you are having with businesses, government agencies, or other organizations.

“We will train you. We’ll teach you how to solve consumer problems, and the biggest benefit for you will be the fact that you’ll learn what’s going on in your community, you’ll be up to date with all the latest scams, you’ll know what’s going on there, you’re going to be on top, and you’re going to get great training, and you’re going to meet other wonderful people. We have people from all walks of life, we have lawyers, we have accountants, we have housewives. No matter your background, if you know how to use the computer and are interested in helping consumers, we would love for you to get it, contact us and help you volunteer to serve your community,” said explained Shirley Rooker, president of Call for Action.

“We have set up volunteer groups on radio, television and newspapers across the country,” Rooker explained in describing how the program works. “We are working on big issues. We work on small problems. There are some things we don’t do. We do not work on mental health issues. We do not work on employment matters, or we do not work on cases where you have already obtained an attorney. But we work on almost everything. We really are accomplished people, we have people from all walks of life, volunteering calls for action, and I think it’s the most fun thing I’ve ever done.
