Canaveral Station’s area of ​​responsibility covers 57 miles offshore, including north of the Haulover Channel, south to Malabar, the Indian River, and the Banana Rivers.

BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – The US Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday for a new 21,000 square foot search and rescue building in Port Canaveral.

Chief Warrant Officer John P. Chandler, Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral, presided over the ceremony.

“Today we opened an exciting new multi-mission facility at Port Canaveral Coast Guard Station,” Chandler said.

“This new facility will house multiple commands, in a new, technologically advanced building with up-to-date equipment to ensure we remain Semper Paratus, always ready!”

Also in attendance were Capt. Brian M Kostecki, Resource Management Division Chief, Seventh Coast Guard District and Capt. Mark R. Vlaun, Commander Coast Guard Area Jacksonville.

Canaveral Station is assigned to Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville and has 45 active duty reserve men and women and 30 unit assigned men and women.

The missions performed at Canaveral Station are search and rescue, federal law and treaty enforcement, and environmental protection.

Since 1980, Canaveral Station personnel have reinforced safety zones for 150 space missions and more than 500 unmanned rocket launches. Canaveral Station responds to approximately 250 search and rescue cases and 500 law enforcement boardings annually.
