The chapel joins the lighthouse in an apartment complex that will also serve as a wedding venue

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — If you’re going to a chapel and you’re getting married, would you consider a chapel in an apartment complex?

“I think it probably would have been off limits for her,” said Corpus Christi visitor Jeff Oglesby from San Antonio, referring to his wife.

He spent Thursday afternoon fishing from his kayak near the Lighthouse Pointe apartment complex, just off the Nueces Bay causeway.

This complex is home to the largest stone lighthouse in North America.

And now a stone chapel is also built there.

“It’s not a bad idea to have a waterfront chapel,” Oglesby said. “That’s not bad. You would get sunrise services.

Wedding services are what the project manager hopes to organize in this chapel with wedding receptions using space in the restaurant and banquet hall – also under construction – next door.

“The idea is to have events here — weddings, ceremonies, more intimate quinceaneras — stuff like that,” said Jonathan Gonzalez of the Village Building Group.

He says that, like so many other facets of life these days, the completion of the chapel, lighthouse, restaurant and banquet hall has been slowed by supply chain issues – but he hopes to finish them in a month or two.

Only then will they find out that their idea was right.

Either way, Gonzalez is happy to be involved in such a creative project.

“It was very eye-opening,” he said. “It’s one of the most imaginative things I’ve ever worked on.”
