South Range School Board Approves Positive Financial Forecast | News, Sports, Jobs

CANFIELD – The South Range School Board this week approved an updated five-year financial forecast that shows a positive cash balance through the end.

Submitted by District Treasurer Mario Nero, the forecast shows a positive cash balance of just over $4 million in the former, but drops to $751,605 in the latter. The forecast also calls for the district to enter a spending deficit in the second year at just under $211,000 and increase to nearly $1.5 million in the last.

In other cases, the board approved a 1.95% pay increase for non-union staff, except Superintendent Bethany Carlson and Nero. The increase is the same as that of the contracts of teachers and classified unions.

The board also accepted the resignation of Eileen Hyland as a teaching assistant, hired Heidi Guilliams as an ESSER college tutor, and agreed to continue the Raider before and after custody program for 2022-2023 with associated costs. paid by parents enrolling eligible children.

Additionally, the council approved a lease agreement for the South Range Soccer Club to use the district’s southern grounds. The agreement is the same as the one with the Little Raiders program, in which the organization will maintain and scratch the ground and cannot install any permanent structures.

Carlson reminded everyone that graduation is at 6 p.m. on May 28 and the last day for students is June 2.

Carlson also reported that the district continues to seek replacements for teacher aides, teachers and bus drivers. She said the district will help train anyone who wants to become certified to drive a bus and “All positions are ideal for stay-at-home parents who want to work only while their children are in school.”

The June board meeting has been rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. on June 29.
