The Kilrush RNLI lifeboat has been called to help a lone seafarer who reported his vessel disabled this afternoon.

The alarm was raised at around 12.30pm when the sailor made radio contact with watch officers from the Irish Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre on Valentia Island in County Kerry.

The sole occupant of the sailboat reported that his boat’s propeller had clogged up and was out of order.

The Coast Guard alerted the Kilrush RNLI lifeboat and instructed the volunteer team to proceed to the location near Loop Head.

The lifeboat was launched around 12:40 p.m. and proceeded to the scene. MRSC Valentia watch officers maintained radio contact with the captain until the lifeboat arrived.

After locating the stricken vessel, the lifeboat crew took the boat in tow, but within minutes the propeller appeared to have come free and the captain was able to restart his engine.

The ship was able to continue its journey without further assistance while the volunteer lifeboat crew returned to their station at Cappagh.

Meanwhile, the Irish Coastguard Unit’s Killaloe Unit was tasked this evening with assisting two people after their jetski broke down on Lough Derg.

The team of volunteers were tasked at 6.55pm by watch officers from the Irish Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre on Valentia Island in Kerry.

The jetski reportedly broke down north of Two Mile Gate on the Clare side of Lough Derg.

A boat crew launched at 7:05 p.m. and reached the disabled jetski within minutes. A shore party traveled by road to where the jetski had been moored to a private jetty. Both people were transported to Two Mile Gate by the shore party.

The jetski was towed to Two Mile Gate where it was later recovered from the water.
