MOUNT VERNON – Neighbors Driving Neighbors is looking for volunteers to become drivers for the non-profit organization.

Serving the cities of Belgrade, Fayette, Mount Vernon, Rome and Vienna, the organization connects drivers with residents who need transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping and other places. ‘other races.

References and a background check are required for new drivers, as well as participation in a two-hour orientation.

The next volunteer driver orientation is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28 in Mount Vernon. The orientation location will be provided once applicants have registered. The organization has been providing free transportation services to its neighbors since 2015. Volunteer drivers volunteer their time and use their own cars for transportation. The organization will provide transportation to anyone of any age or income status, as long as the rider is vaccinated or needs a ride to get vaccinated. The organization also picks up and delivers prepaid grocery and pharmacy orders for people in its service area.
