Lorenzo White named to the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame class of 2022

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Tournament of Roses announced Tuesday that former Michigan State All-American running back Lorenzo White has been named to the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame Class of 2022. White is the second Spartan to be inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame, joining Dave. Kaiser, who threw a game-winning field goal from 41 yards in the final seconds of the 1956 Rose Bowl against UCLA.

This year’s Rose Bowl Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be a private event to be held in Pasadena the week of the game. Inductees will also be honored at the Rose Parade presented by Honda and on the field at the 109th Rose Bowl Game on January 2, 2023.

The Rose Bowl Hall of Fame was established in 1989 to honor members of the Rose Bowl Game who have contributed to the history and excitement of the game, and those who embody the highest level of passion, strength, of tradition and honor associated with Le grandfather de tous®.

Alongside White, former Oregon and Penn State coach Hugo Bezdek, recently retired Rose Bowl Stadium CEO Darryl Dunn and 1977 Rose Bowl Game MVP Vince Evans will also be inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame as a Class of 2022.

A member of the College Football Hall of Fame, White was the leading rusher in Michigan State football history with 4,887 yards from 1984-1987, including an MSU single-season best rusher of 2,066 yards in 1985. He has finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy. vote in 1985 and 1987 while earning first-team All-America honors.

White led the Spartans to a 20-17 victory over USC in the 1988 Rose Bowl game, rushing for 113 yards and two scores in the victory. His first touchdown came in the first quarter and gave Michigan State a 7-3 lead, then he added another score in the second quarter to extend the lead to 14-3. His 35 in-game runs rank third in Rose Bowl Game history.

White was then drafted in the first round of the 1988 NFL Draft and played eight years in the NFL. He rushed for over 1,200 yards in 1992 and was selected for the Pro Bowl. White was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2019.

With the addition of this year’s class, the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame includes 140 inductees over its 33-year history. Inductees are honored with a permanent plaque that includes their name and year of induction into the Champions Court at Rose Bowl Stadium, they are presented during the Rose Parade presented by Honda, and are recognized on the field during the Rose Bowl Game.
