Little to no Thanksgiving volunteer opportunities at Brazos Valley nonprofits

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) — Thanksgiving is usually a time when organizations see an influx of people signing up to volunteer.

This year, the Brazos Valley Food Bank said it is preparing to provide food to its partners so that staff can spend time with their families during the holidays.

Although the food bank is closed on Thanksgiving Day, they said they are still looking for volunteers and will need volunteers again starting Monday.

“We use volunteers all year round. The two days that were closed on Thanksgiving Day, we will start again on Monday morning and we use volunteers throughout December and throughout the year,” said Programs Coordinator, Shannon Avila.

Twin City Misson was able to recruit enough volunteers in August to help with their Thanksgiving party.

The organization says it’s grateful that so many people want to help not just on Thanksgiving, but throughout the year.

“Our community cafe is always filling up because we have support all the time. This community is so great and they support us all the time,” said Lindsey Smart, Special Events and Volunteer Coordinator for Twin City Mission.
