A food bank in SOUTH East Cornwall has announced it will become a restaurant club this week – the county’s first.
Lighthouse Community Center CIC, based in Liskeard in Unit 6b, Heathlands PL14 4DH, says of the new Lighthouse Food Club: “We are delighted to announce that our food bank has moved to a FOOD CLUB, the first in Cornwall, which officially opens on Tuesday, January 11, working with Fareshare and Morrison’s to ensure we can provide regular access to a sustainable supply of food to vulnerable people.
âWe launched a food bank in March 2020 when the pandemic started and we’ve come a long way since then. In addition to Fareshare and Morrison’s, the Cornwall Community Foundation, Feeding Britain, the Bennelong Foundation and Co-op have all helped make this possible.
âThis service will help people in difficulty, increase their disposable income, reduce food waste and provide additional support services to improve life chances and well-being.
âIt is available to anyone living in the Liskeard and Looe area who is in a vulnerable position, who may be isolated, elderly, disabled or on low income. The only criteria for joining the Food Club will be to have an initial consultation with one of the Lighthouse team members within the first 3 months of registration and proof of address.
âWe are responding quickly with one of the most important resources people need, food! Operating an informal, friendly and confidential approach, we provide a place of care where people can find social support in a caring, caring and non-judgmental environment.
‘To find out more or to register, contact us. You can send us a message, e-mail or phone us.
