Laurelle A. Cummings, formerly of Atco, NJ, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2022 at the age of 83. She was predeceased by her husband Frank and son Billy and is survived by her loving children, Lynne and Mike Baran, Sherill & Jim Beatty, Debra & John Countey, Frank & Lynn Cummings, Brenda & Frank Arico, Joel Fishbein and Donald Cummings also have 23 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Laurelle was born in Pittsburgh PA and raised in Oaklyn, NJ, graduating from Collingswood High School in 1956. She has lived much of her life, in southern New Jersey in Oaklyn, Barrington, Cherry Hill and Waterford Township, where she developed a good life-long friendship, became politically and socially active, and enjoyed travel and musical theatre. She was very proud of her career in health services, working in many nonprofits, including Goodwill Industries, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and Lighthouse Hospice. Many of his positions were focused on volunteer services and public relations. She continued her service to the community by serving in local and county government as she was elected to the Waterford Township Committee for 9 years where she was Mayor in 1994 and 1998. She was later elected to the Landowners Council of Camden County for 6 years where she was a strong advocate for environmental issues, founder of the Boathouse Project in Cooper River Park and spearheaded initiatives including an annual seminar for caregivers of the elderly. Her passion for volunteering is expressed in her membership and participation in numerous community organizations. Former President of the Barrington Junior Women’s Club, Past Matron of Athene Chapter, OES, Waterford Township Civics and Events Association, WT Democrat Club, Camden County Commission for Women, President of the Volunteer Center of Camden County Advisory Board, Board Member of Mainstage, Inc. and President of the Camden County Chapter of the NJ Federation of Democratic Women. Laurelle was a strong role model for the women in her family as well as many women in the community. She will forever be remembered for bringing laughter and sunshine to many and making her little part of the world better than it was before she arrived. Visitation will be held at Leroy P. Wooster Funeral Home and Crematory, 441 White Horse Pike, Atco New Jersey on Tuesday, August 23 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, August 24 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A celebration of life service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Berlin Cemetery, Berlin, NJ. Laurelle has asked that her friends and family celebrate her life with smiles, funny stories and photographs that bring laughter and positive memories. In lieu of flowers, donate to a charity close to your heart.
