Coast Guard suspends active search for overdue pilot off Cape Cod

The Coast Guard suspended their active search at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday for a late plane near Nauset Beach, Mass., Pending further information.

Coast Guard crews searched a total of 55 hours over 2,076 square miles with no signs of a missing pilot or plane.

Watchers in the Southeastern New England Coast Guard sector received a report at 10:34 p.m. Sunday from the Air Force Regional Command Center of a possible Piper 28 aircraft, white and beige, shot four miles east of Sampson Island.

The research teams included:

Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing crew

Harwich Harbor Captain
Captain of the Port of Orleans
