Coast Guard Responds to Tug and Barge Grounding in Florida

The Coast Guard is responding to a tug and barge carrying food and ammunition that ran aground Thursday in Boca Raton. The Military Sealift Command public affairs specialist said the munitions on board posed no threat to the public. Officials said there were four people on board when the tug ran aground around 8:45 p.m. No injuries were reported. The barge was heading for the Atlantic Submarine Test Assessment Center in Andros Town, Bahamas, according to MSC. officials say Friday afternoon no pollution was seen around the ships. A security zone is in place for the site. South Beach between Deerfield and the town of Boca Raton will be closed until further notice, with the closure of Osceola Drive at the Deerfield Pier possibly ending over the weekend. Onshore operations are taking place on Friday morning to remove oil and fuel, which will help stop any pollution that could pose risks to the area.

Coast Guard officials said Friday afternoon that there was no pollution around the vessels.
