HOUSTON (KIAH) – The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a late dog and a dog near the Texas City seawall on Monday.

Watchmen at the Houston-Galveston Coast Guard Area Command Center were informed at around 3:30 a.m. that a late fisherman and dog were last seen in a 12-foot jon boat without an engine. around midnight Monday.

A family member of the late fisherman told a Coast Guard crew to help another boater near the Texas City Dike boat launch. The crew of the intervention boat found the jon boat with the late fisherman and the dog at around 8:35 a.m.

“This search and rescue case illustrates the importance of having the correct safety equipment on board your ship, especially the proper navigation lights and effective communication equipment,” said Lt. Cmdr. Ian Murray, Houston-Galveston Area Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator. “We are exceptionally pleased with the positive outcome of this matter and grateful that we were able to safely reunite the man and dog with their families.”

No one was injured in the incident.
